The Matrix: Path of Neo is the second video game developed by Shiny Entertainment based on the Matrix trilogy. Players will be able to play as the character Neo, participating in scenes from the films, dating back from when he receives a special cell phone from Morpheus to the final battle with Agent Smith. It was released on November 8, 2005 in North America.
David Perry, president of Shiny Entertainment Inc., has said that the game is "basically the game the gamers wanted first time around... The Neo Game!"[1] In effect, Shiny Entertainment's first licensed Matrix game, Enter The Matrix, did not feature the series' main protagonist Neo (only supporting characters were playable) and due to its objective as a development of the Matrix storyline, had few scenes based on those seen in the film trilogy. The reception by game reviewers was lukewarm, but the general public mostly ignored the game reviews and more than one million copies were sold.
The game is mostly based on the first movie but features scenes from the three movies of the trilogy, picked by the movie directors themselves[2]. A total of 50 levels recount almost every major action scene from the films. The game also features a brand-new ending, because the Wachowski brothers felt the ending of The Matrix Revolutions wasn't fitting for a video game. Rather than an alternate ending to the Matrix storyline, the game's ending is more of a humorous non-sequitur similar to those found in Shiny's previous games, such as the Earthworm Jim series.
